I'm being sponsored by Bill & Irene Becker and their wonderful "Group of Greyhounds"!
"Dee" is 4 1/2 and came to Grey Haven at the end of April. She had one litter in January of 2010, stayed on the breeding farm till April of this year, not being bred again. She was put in a breeding program early because she had broken a front leg (right one) and they never fixed it so she could never race. Evidently they felt her bloodlines were good enough to keep her as a brood.
Somewhere, sometime she developed dry eye. This is a life long condition and I will tell you without proper medication she would lose her sight. We got her early enough to find the proper combination of drugs to clear any infection and make her eyes well enough that she could use them all day instead of walking around in pain and with her eyes "scrunched" closed to avoid the light.
Today she runs and plays and joins in all the fun in the yard.....she no longer hangs back, off to the side because it hurts to just look at anything.
We love this little girl. She is full of love for humans and loves to be in the middle of a pack of dogs, playing as hard as they can! Life is good.....but it was because you all work so hard to continue to raise money that dogs like little Dee are able to get the medical attention they need to be able to look for a home. She will need eye meds the rest of her life but the infection is gone and we just make sure the eyes stay lubricated and medicated and for her, life is good!
The leg is crooked but it doesn't bother her and because of the location and age of the injury, it's not in her best interest to try to fix it surgically.
