A Day at the Races
I've never been to a Greyhound Racetrack, so, my recent trip to Birmingham was a unique experience. I came with a lot of preconceived ideas and some of them were well founded. Some were not. The main purpose of the trip was another GUR, dropping off our little Dancing Bug to her new owners from Tenn., who met us in Birmingham. After completing all of the paperwork, Marilyn and I headed to the track to meet with one of the trainers for a large kennel operation out of Birmingham. We hit the track around turnout time and suddenly I found myself in a tsunami of hounds. 70 greyhounds in a group is a formidable sight. I was caught in a furry tidal wave of dogs, each one vying for my attention and pushing their muzzled noses into my legs and wherever else they could reach.
