DarrenUPDATE: January 28, 2010

Very special news to share with you: Darren has been adopted! He is now with his a very special family that is near and dear to our hearts, The Beckers, who live in Memphis, TN. You may remember Bill and Irene, as they adopted Dancing Bug a little over a year ago.

Congrats to Darren and his new family! We are so happy for you all!

Update: Sept. 25, 2009

After spending the last few weeks here at Grey Haven and eating everything that isn't nailed down, Darren has gained about 16 lb and is feeling great!

Here's how Darren looked when he came to Grey Haven:

And here is how Darren is looking after his weight gain:

What a difference!

Darren is running (a little strangely) with the big boys and now can keep up. There are a few ripples of new muscle under that shiny black coat of his and he is having a great time being a silly greyhound.

One more set of blood tests and he may be ready for some vet work and a trip to Orlando to see if anything can be done to help him. Darren thanks you all for the good wishes!!! I think he asked if you would all send him some cookies, too!

You can also sponsor Darren or write a message to him on his wall.

Update: August 17, 2009

Darren's horrible thirst is abating and he has had several dry blanket in his crate. He is down to two meals a day from three and not acting like he wanted to take my arm along with his bowl.

He is sooooo happy! He goes out with the boys and appears to be having a good time with everything he sees and does.
... and, needless to say ... I am sooooo happy!

During his first week here at Grey Haven, Darren gained four pounds. His hematocrit and platelets are going up, up, up!

August 10, 2009

This very sweet four year old just came to Grey Haven on August 5, 2009. He is about 15 pounds underweight and has some medical issues.

He was also born with a deformity of both front legs. It appears that his "elbows" are double-jointed.

(That is not a real medical description but honestly describes what you see when you watch him walk).

The condition has left him with no muscle mass in his front end at all and has forced him to walk with a strange gait. All of these problems have not taken a thing away from his loving manner and his joy for all the new things he has seen in the last few days.

Darren and Kathy

His name is Darren and he is so glad to have plenty of soft blankets and three good meals a day that he has not stopped wagging his tail since he got here. We are going to take each medical issue and deal with them one at a time.

Right now there seems to be a problem with his blood and we will address that first. Once he starts gaining weight we hope to seen an improvement in all his test results just from the addition of good food and supplements. The orthopedic issues will be checked out in Orlando once we know he is on his way to good health.

I know this boy is going to make a wonderful addition to a family some day. Right now we just want Darren to be healthy and with your continued support that will happen.

Leave a message for Darren on his wall!

This is certainly one of God's "special" creatures. There is a special place for him in heaven, but he's obviously "got alot of living to do". A special "Thanks" to all the "Earthly Angels" at Greyhaven and GAF. You make me so very proud to call you FRIENDS.....

He is certainly in good hands now and as soon as he has fully recovered I am sure he will not find it hard going to a good home. He is just precious and if I did not already have four dogs I would love to have him.

You might not know it, but you are in the best temporary home possible. And I know Marilyn will find you great forever home.

This brave and incredibly handsome creature is my kinda guy Marilyn! His heart is right there, in his eyes. My first impulse is to ask you if you think he'd do okay in the cold, snowy, icy Northeast? Oh no, Did I just say that? Please give him extra ear scritchies from me, and a little kiss on his nose.

Bev: Who in their right mind does well in the cold, snowy, icy Northeast?

How about joining Darren, me and all the others here in warm, sunny Florida??

Thanks for the initiation to Grey Haven. I am now a full-fledged member with bragging rights to boot! I'll never forgot our special encounter on my last night at the farm. You are looking good thanks to all the TLC you have received. Good luck buddy!

I was so excited to learn that Darren has found his forever home with a loving family. We may have been in a tug of war over him with his new people if only we lived in a decent climate. Hugs and kisses for you Darren!
